Memorial services for Virgil Marvin Mitchell, of Skiatook, were held Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Happy Hill Church in Ramona, OK. Reverend William Vance officiated and burial was in Dewey Cemetery in Dewey, OK.


Virgil was born August 5, 1927 in Dewey, OK to George A. and Nora Love (Hinkle) Mitchell. He passed away January 12, 2012 in Skiatook, OK at the age of 84.


Virgil was born and raised in Dewey, OK. He was a World War II veteran. He married Ruby Marie Gray on March 18, 1946 and made their home in Fowler, CA. Virgil Worked as a welder at Gable Disk while pursuing his carpentry apprenticeship and became the youngest one in the state to get his contractor’s license. He then moved to Texas to work as a carpenter. In 1957, Virgil moved to Arizona to work for his uncle who was employed by McCrory Stores. He worked his way up in the company and was the Construction Superintendent in over 10 states. Virgil was the only Deacon in the Church of God of Prophecy in the state of Arizona. In 1964, he moved to Oklahoma where he continued his work in construction and remodeling. In 1969, Virgil moved back to Texas to work for McCrory Stores again, before moving back to Oklahoma in 1975 to work for McDonnell Douglas. He also worked for Rhema (Kenneth Hagin Ministries).Virgil was a member of the Church of God in Skiatook. He was an ordained minister.


He is survived by his wife, Ruby Marie Mitchell; son, Marvin Daniel Mitchell and wife Paula Sue (Booker) of Skiatook; daughter, Donna Marie (Mitchell) King and husband Bill Oliver of Skiatook; grandchildren, Dana Marie (Mitchell) Neighbors of Owasso, Jeffery Jay King and wife Sarah Dawn (Whiteman) of Skiatook, Christina Marie (King) Maneth and husband Dale of Olmitz, KS; great-grandchildren, Trenton King of Skiatook, Riley King of Skiatook, Avery King of Skiatook, Jordyn Neighbors of Owasso, Jenna Neighbors of Owasso, and Kooper Maneth of Olmitz, KS; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.


He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Nora Mitchell; sisters, Ruth Garrett and Vera Baser; and brother, Arthur Mitchell.
