Thelma Jean Mead

Funeral services for Thelma Jean (Claxton) Mead, 87, of Skiatook, OK, were held Friday, February 4, 2022, at Johnson Funeral Chapel in Sperry, OK. Phillip Johnson officiated, and burial was in Osage Gardens Cemetery in Skiatook, OK. Casket bearers were Roy Mead, Troy Mead, Rocky Canady, Dennis Canady, David Canady, and Michael Mead. Honorary Casket bearers were Kenneth Mead, John Wayne Canady, William Bales, Mavrick Bales, Wyatt Bales, Kyle Mead, Johnathan Mead and Pat Huddleston.

Thelma was born July 25, 1934, in Yonkers, OK, to Bert Ivan and Laura Ellen (Still) Claxton. She passed away January 31, 2022, in Tulsa, OK.

Thelma married Walter Mead in March of 1950. Together, they raised seven children and spent 50 years in Skiatook. In Thelma’s early years, she worked for Asbury United Methodist Church in Tulsa, but retired early because of her health. Her health kept her home bound so she enjoyed playing dominoes, dice, sorry and card games with her kids. Anyone who came into her house for food or help, Thelma was there for them. Family was her life, and she was loved.

She is survived by her sons, Troy Mead of Skiatook, Roy Mead of Skiatook, and Kenneth Mead of Skiatook; daughters, Cindy Canady of Skiatook, and Jean Almy of Cleveland; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Mead; sons, Tim Mead and David Mead; and many other relatives.

Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
