Graveside services for Stephen Mathew Jones, 57, of Ponca City, were held Friday, May 27, 2016 at Pawhuska City Cemetery in Pawhuska, OK. Mr. Phillip Johnson officiated
Stephen was born August 15, 1958 in Pawhuska, OK to Elmer Fulton and Mary Sue (Fortney) Jones. He passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016 in Tulsa, OK after suffering a massive stroke.
Stephen was a resident of Osage County near Ponca City. Stephen attended Pawhuska Schools before beginning his service in the Army National Guard at the age of 16, then transitioning to the US Army serving as an Airborne Ranger Special Forces, serving in many areas including Korea and Vietnam. In 1980, Stephen married Lisa Ham-Wadsworth in Newkirk, OK. He enjoyed raising their children and working construction. In 1984, Stephen moved to Garden City, KS where he met Terry Terry and enjoyed raising their children and working as a butcher. They moved to Kentucky in 1991 where Steve resumed carpentry, becoming a Master Finish Carpenter. In 1996, Stephen returned to Ponca City and has worked for Albertsons, Walmart, McCord Schools and Scott Lawn Services. Stephen enjoyed many activities including hunting trips with his family, fishing, Karate, Motorcycle riding, and artifact hunting. He was a member of the NRA. All of this paled next to the joy he felt in spoiling his grandchildren. This was his true passion. He was anxiously awaiting his next granddaughter. The term “stepchildren” was never used in Stephen’s world and he was always dad to each of them.
He is survived by his daughter, Deeyll Hubbard and husband Dan of Ponca City Shandise Brown and husband David of Edmond; Sherrett Jones and husband Andrew Forbis, and Kristie Songmann of Bowling Green, KY; sons, Samuel “DJ” Wadsworth, Jr. of Helena, Mathew Jones and wife Amanda of Ponca City, Kurt Terry of Bowling Green, KY and Karl Lee Terry of Bowling Green, KY; 19 grandchildren, Dean Wadsworth, Camden Clough, Kaily Jones, Peton Jones and Raysen Jones, Thea Brown (due 7-4-16), Caillie, Aiden and Grayson Sorbis, Brandon, Riley, and Brently Songmann, Greenlea and Journee Terry, and Nick, Olivia, Madison, Carter and Baby Terry; brother, Randall Jones and wife Delores; sisters, Teresa “Teri” Blankenship and husband Jack, and Pam McGee and husband Kenny all of Pawhuska; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, and other relatives and friends that will miss him deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Fulton and Mary Sue Jones; brothers, Fulton Ray Jones and Michael Wayne Jones; his grandparents, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Even in death, Stephen shared with others as an organ donor to the Life Share Program.
