Memorial services for Russell Ray Rumsey, 73, of Sperry, were held Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Community of Christ Church in Sperry, OK. Elder Charles Rowden officiated.
Russell was born November 24, 1941 in Sperry, OK to Russell W. and Lucille (Bates) Cooper. He passed away April 22, 2015 in Tulsa, OK.
Russell was a Vietnam veteran and was in the II Field Force Artillery Command at the Army headquarters. He was an accountant and retired from MAPCO. After retiring, he opened the Wet Spot Laundromat in Sperry. Russell enjoyed driving and maintaining his 1967 Chevy Corvette. He enjoyed watching OU and NFL football, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, and NASCAR. Russell was a member of the NRA and enjoyed target shooting. He enjoyed a variety of genres of music, from the 1950’s to present day. Reading and studying wars was a favorite hobby of Russell’s.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Rumsey; children, Phaedra Shipley and husband Greg; and Pharah Miller; grandchildren, Chenoah Shipley, Calan Shipley; and Miriam Miller; sister, Jeannie Christenson and husband Mark; brother, Steve Cooper and wife Mary; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell W. Rumsey; and mother, Lucille Cooper.
