Robert L. "Bob" Peters

Memorial Services for Robert Lewis “Bob” Peters, 58, of Tulsa, were held Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the Community of Christ Church in Sperry, OK. The Elder Charles Rowden officiated. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.

Bob was born April 10, 1955 in Tulsa, OK to James and Dora (Rowden) Peters. He passed away December 22, 2013 in Tulsa, OK.

Bob was raised in Archer City, TX until sixth grade. Debbie remembers the winters – Bob had chores he did before school – like breaking the ice on the pond so the cows and horses could drink, slopping the pigs, and helping their mom with the early morning paper routes. Every day after school, Bob would rush home to play tether ball with Debbie, Dennis, Tommy, and Jimmy. In 1967, his mom, dad, sister, and three brothers moved to Garden City, KS for a couple of years, then on to Sperry where he graduated from high school in 1973.

Bob raised winning show pigs while in the Future Farmers of America in high school. He was an outstanding athlete. Bob scored 49 points in one basketball game, to tie the school record. The coach, unaware of the record that Bob was about to break; pulled him from the game to let others play. He won many top ranked state track meets in high hurdles, the 100 yard dash, and 440 relay.

Bob was starting quarterback and safety on the football team his junior and senior years of high school. He attended his freshman year of college at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, AR on a full track scholarship. He then transferred to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami his sophomore year on a full scholarship. In later years, while working during the day to support his children, Bob attended and graduated from the Spartan School of Aeronautics.

He is survived by his wife, Maria Peters; children, Sarah Peters, Robert Peters, Mara Saldierna, and Melissa Saldierna; two granddaughters and four grandsons; siblings, Debbie Peters and Dennis Peters; aunt, Mary Beth Smith; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Dora Peters; and brothers, Tommy Peters and Jimmy Peters.
