Funeral services for Richard Glenn “Max” Terhune, of Tulsa, were held Monday, July 16, 2012 at Sperry United Pentecostal Church in Sperry, OK. Reverend Kevin Erickson officiated and burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK. Casket bearers were Steve Jones, Nathan Jones, Danny Jones, Larry Eddings, Gary Eddings, James Briggs, and Jim Selvidge.
Max was born August 14, 1932 in Tulsa, OK to Ira Glenn and Florence (Wilson) Terhune. He passed away July 13, 2012 in Tulsa, OK at the age of 79.
Max attended Cherokee Elementary in Turley, OK and graduated from Central High School in Tulsa, OK where he played the trombone as a member of the Jazz Band. He attended the University of Tulsa and was a member of the marching band. Max met and married Waneta Sixkiller when they were just babes. He was 19 and she was 17.
Max was drafted in the Korean Conflict and spent most of his time at Fort Sill where he was a cavalry member. As an employee of American Airlines, he was honored by being voted Mechanic of the Year. He retired from American Airlines on March 31, 1996 after 39 years of service. Max was honored by Tupelo Children's Mansion for his generous donations for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Waneta Terhune of the home; son, Max Lynn Terhune and wife Pam of Tulsa; granddaughter, Lauren Kaitlynn Terhune; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Florence Terhune; and brother, Bob Terhune.
