Graveside memorial services for Raymond Wayne Davis were held Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Osage Gardens Cemetery in Skiatook, OK. Phil Johnson officiated.
Raymond was born August 15, 1930, in Sperry, OK to Roy Wayne Davis and Alma Ruth (Hansen) Davis. He passed from this life Monday, August 21, 2023, at his home in Skiatook, OK.
He grew up in Sand Springs, OK, and attended the Old Rock School House north of Sand Springs and Mark Twain School until the eighth grade when he entered into the working world. In his younger years he was a carpenter by trade specializing in cabinetry and became a Long-Haul Truck Driver traveling across the country in the later part of his career. He met and fell in love with Pauline Earhart also of Sand Springs, OK and they were married for 50 years until her passing in 1999 from lung cancer, and now with the completion of his earthly journey they are reunited in heaven. Raymond and Pauline had three children: Gary, Donnie, and Janice. He was one of 8 children, and he loved visiting his siblings, nieces and nephews, spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a devoted Christian who enjoyed spending time with his church family at The First Assembly of God and he is most assuredly having a wonderful time in Heaven. He was a very independent person, and this motivated him and inspired him throughout his life, as he was proud to say he was still driving and taking care of all his personal business at the young age of 93. He looked forward to having lunch every weekday at the Senior Citizens Center of Skiatook, and spending time with all his friends. In his younger years he enjoyed coon-hunting tramping through the woods with his coon hounds until early morning hours, and he always enjoyed fishing for crappie and talking about the big ones that got away.
He is survived by his son, Gary Davis; son, Donnie Davis; daughter, Janice Higdon and husband, Jim; 6 grandchildren and their spouses; many great-grandchildren; sister, Loretta Ray; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Davis; grandson, Mathew Wayne Davis; parents, Roy and Alma Davis; and siblings, Lena Whittington, Roy “Pete” Davis, Rose Mary Remington, Joe Allen Davis, Joyce Darlene Ladner, and Edward “Eddie” Davis.
As we bid farewell to Raymond, we celebrate a life lived with kindness, devotion and strength that will forever shine in the hearts of those he left behind. May his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew and loved him.
Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
