Funeral services for Phillip Wayne Walker, of Tulsa, were held Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Johnson Funeral Chapel in Sperry, OK. Phillip Johnson officiated and burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK. Casket bearers were Jake Crutchfield, Ross Crutchfield, Joseph Sanders, Keith Secrest, David Stringer, and Robert Thulin.
Phillip was born August 8, 1957 in Sapulpa, OK to Henry Elmo and Ada Joann (Stanford) Walker. He passed away January 22, 2013 in Sioux City, IA at the age of 55.
Phillip went to John Ross Elementary School in Tulsa until 5th grade. Then he finished his education in Collinsville. He participated in baseball, basketball, football, 4H, FFA, and was also a member of the Collinsville Round-Up Club. His sister Wenonah remembers playing barbies and monsters with him at Aunt Frances’ house and of course he was always “Ken” and “Frankenstein”.
His sister Cheryl remembers playing Batman and Robin which included standing on the horses, after attending a Johnny Lee Wills rodeo, where they did this as their entertainment. They did extremely dangerous things in which she was just the little innocent one. Phillip taught her to play pool at a very young age. About a year ago, she was fortunate enough to get to play with him again, and they were horrible. Cheryl has always thought of him every time she plays and always will. Phillip’s cousins have many childhood memories of them swimming in their pond, horseback riding and playing school. Barbara was always the teacher and the others were the students as well as a few stuffed animals.
His mom remembers, when his friends’ mother called to tell her she thought their boys had painted red over the white “stop” on the stop signs. She asked Phillip about it and he said “Why are you accusing me?” as he stood there with red paint on his shoes, of course, this was in his younger days. His mom also remembers that while living with her, when he was older, he would read his bible every night with his black rimmed reading glasses. It reminds her of how much he enjoyed going to Bible School and Sunday School.
He is survived by his children, Bobbie Jo, Michelle, and Christopher; grandchildren, Jasmin and Jacob; mother, Joann Walker; sisters, Wenonah Caruthers and Cheryl Walker; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Walker; and grandparents, Henry “Buck” and Nancy Walker and Jess and Oma Stanford.
