Pamela Jean Barnes

Memorial services for Pamela Jean (Orton) Barnes, 58, of Turley, were held Friday, May 5, 2017 at Johnson Funeral Chapel in Sperry, OK. Phillip Johnson officiated.

Pam was born August 20, 1958 at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, OK to Bobby Lee Orton and Geraldine (Woods) Hill. She passed away April 29, 2017 in El Reno, OK.

Pam attended Sperry Public Schools. Pam married Rick Houston in 1974 and had two daughters, Heather and Laura. She married George Barnes in 1989 and gained a son and a daughter, Clint and Jorjann. When Pam married George, she gave her heart to god and loved serving him. Both she and George were active in church and loved spreading god’s word and worshiping him. Pam took great pride in making a nice home for her family. She enjoyed decorating her home and cooking for her family. She loved arts and crafts, and spent hours in her craft room and was very handy with a hot glue gun. George would often tease her about getting her a holster for it. In the mid 1980’s Pam was a state champion arm wrestler in the lightweight division. She may have been tiny but she was mighty. Her happy place was at the lake with their camper and pontoon boat, she enjoyed being at the lake and loved to fish. Many, many times we would spend all day on the water. Heather can remember a certain time after a full day of tubing and fishing at Chouteau Bend she said to her “untie us and let’s go home.” She did as she asked her to do, or so she thought. She said “are you going to untie us?” Heather said “I did.” She came up out of that boat seat so fast and said “you untied my stringer of fish”! She was not very happy and it was a very quiet ride back to the dock. Needless to say, Heather was never asked to untie them again. When they wanted to camp, we would camp. Us kids weren’t always happy when they decided to camp during the school year. We had to get up earlier to make the long drive from Skiatook Lake to school in Tulsa, for teenagers this was rough, especially teenage girls. Now, we can say that we cherish these memories and feel lucky to have been lake brats. Pam loved entertaining for the holidays, especially the 4th of July and Christmas. She loved having her family and friends around her. George passed away in 2004 and from that day forward she was never quite the same. He was her rock. She spent the last 19 months of her life in a hospital bed after the car accident, paralyzed and for most of it on a ventilator. Suffering as no one should have to suffer. She is at peace now, no more mental or physical pain. Due to her condition we were advised not to tell her of her of our grandma’s death, I can only imagine what a surprise it was for her when her mom met her at Heavens gates!

She will be missed, but there is great comfort in knowing she is healed!

She is survived by her daughters, Heather Dunaway and husband Joe of Owasso, Laura Mancuso and husband John of Fort Worth, TX and Jorjann Barnes of Turley; son, Clint Barnes and wife April of Sperry; grandchildren, Carson Dunaway, Michael Mancuso, Matthew Mancuso, Victoria Hatley, Luke Barnes, Joey Comer and Mark Plumlee; sister, Debie Jackson and husband Kevin of Locust Grove; niece, Misty Campbell; nephews, Roger Hulvey and Dakota Hulvey; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Barnes; father, Bob Orton; mother, Geraldine Hill; and brother, Robert Orton.
