Alouise Carl “Louie” DeRycke of Cleveland, OK (formerly of Palmyra, NY), passed away January 21, 2011 at the age of 76.

Louie was born December 17, 1934 in Ontario, NY to Gustaf and Hazel (Pepper) DeRycke.

After 45 years, Louie retired from ARA vending services. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Samuel B. Roberts (DD-823). Louie was a member of the USS Samuel B. Roberts (DD-823) Shipmates Association, the Palmyra, NY Moose Lodge, the Tin Can Sailors, and he was a lifetime member of the VFW of Palmyra, NY.

Louie enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, dancing, and yard work. Louie was a backyard mechanic and a collector of unwanted precious metals (scrapper).

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Karen (Kane) DeRycke; children, Eugene DeRycke and wife Elizabeth, Tina DeRycke, Beth (DeRycke) Chaconas and husband Paul, Brenda (DeRycke) Ahern and boyfriend Ray Renckert, and Steven DeRycke and girlfriend Colleen Clark; grandchildren, Scott De Rycke, Matthew DeRycke, Dean Bailey and wife Melissa, Melissa Godkin and husband Michael, Nathan Colon and wife Elizabeth, Staci Reinwald, Jason Sampson, Patrick Ahern, Steven DeRycke, Taylor DeRycke, Trina Hobbs, Sara Hobbs, Jamie Hobbs, and Zee Hobbs; great-grandchildren, Hanna and Lauren Godkin, Nevaeh and Audrianne Sewell, and Amaya Lorence; sisters, Catherine (DeRycke) Bodine and husband Russell, and Gert (DeRycke) Glazier; brother, Gus DeRycke and wife Beverly; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustaf and Hazel DeRycke; brother, Pete DeRycke; sisters, Alice (DeRycke) Kommer and Peggy (DeRycke) Lannon; step-daughter, Theresa (Aldrich) Hobbs, several nieces and nephews; and his God-Son, Alvin DeRycke.

Private funeral services will be held this summer in New York. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Arrangements were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
