Leslie Arthur Mathews Sr.

Leslie Arthur Mathews, Sr. was born January 21, 1930 in Gilroy, CA, to Barney and Ellen Sheila (Tibbits) Armstrong. He passed away January 17, 2021 in Tulsa, OK.

Leslie was a ranch hand on the Hollis Ranch in the 1950’s. He was also a truck driver for Safeway and drove 2,000,000 miles accident free. Leslie was a talented musician, playing bluegrass music and the banjo, mandolin, fiddle and harmonica. He passed that on to his children and grandchildren. Leslie was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He always helped anyone in need.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn Mathews of Claremore; daughters, Vickie Fresh of Sperry, and Dawna Mathews of Sperry; sons, Leslie Mathews, Jr. of Claremore, and Tim Mathews of Owasso; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sister, Joan Close of Seattle, WA; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Barney Mathews and Ellen Armstrong; and brothers, Daniel Mathews and Norman Mathews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
