Funeral services for Kevin Joseph McClelland, 57, of Owasso were Wednesday, May 21, 2008 in the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Sperry. Elder Elbert Rogers officiated. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Sperry.
Pallbearers were Erik McClelland, Brant McClelland, Jason McClelland, Brett McClelland, Michael O'Brien and Justin Rogers. Honorary pallbearers were Chuck Farmer, Kevin Tartar, Robert Letters, Jeff Erickson, Rick Gray and Brantley Frank.
Kevin was born March 2, 1951 in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Bert Ritchie and Muriel Winifred (Holley) McClelland. He died May 16, 2008 in Owasso.
When he was a young man, his love for the outdoors originated from many nights spent hunting and fishing with his older brother, Brant.
After high school, Kevin pursued his musical career until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1971 during the Vietnam War. During his military career, he was stationed in Germany where he earned the distinction of National Defense Service Sharpshooter. He transported nuclear weapons while stationed in Germany until he was honorably discharged in 1973 Kevin attended college as an art major at Central State University in Edmond. He reestablished his love of music as a drummer in the Tulsa and Oklahoma City areas. He was a painter and a wizard of various artistic mediums. During his years in Oklahoma City, he worked various jobs including owning his own automotive repair shop.
He shared his unending love of the outdoors with his sons. He loved to hunt and fish and was a member of Ducks Unlimited. His greatest joy was spending time with his sons including coaching little league baseball teams. He was a long time volunteer and committee member of Tulsa Oktoberfest. He enjoyed cooking for family and friends.
Kevin and his brother, Les, cared for their ailing mother in her later years.
Survivors include his wife and longtime friend, Jade McClelland of the home; two sons, Erik McClelland of Owasso and Brett McClelland of Tulsa; one stepson, Michael O' Brien of Owasso; one stepdaughter, Christina O' Brien of Owasso; one brother, Brant McClelland and wife, Jamie, of Austin, Texas; his stepmother, Anne McClelland of California; half-sister, Kim Gilligan of California; half-brothers, Cory McClelland, Craig McClelland and Kirk McClelland; his mothers-in-law, Norma Farmer of Owasso and Bernice Bohning of Tulsa; nephews, Jason McClelland and wife, Maddie, of Missouri, Jared Rogers and wife, Lacey, of Broken Arrow and Justin Rogers of Tulsa; and one niece, Elizabeth McClelland of Tulsa.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bert McClelland; his mother, Muriel Miller; his stepfather, Roy Miller; and one brother, Les McClelland. Family and friends can sign the guestbook at johnsonfhsperry.com.
