Memorial services for Kenneth Wayne York, Jr. 68, of Sperry, OK, were held Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Johnson Funeral Chapel in Sperry, OK. Reverend Matt Steele officiated, and burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK. Honorary casket bearers were Christopher Scott, Brandon Rapp, Taylor Brown, Adam Scott, and Sawyer Scott.
Wayne was born on September 3, 1954, in Oklahoma City, OK to Kenneth Wayne, York, Sr. and Virginia Adelaide (Sasser) York, and passed from this life on February 16, 2023, in Sperry, OK.
Wayne graduated from Hale High School in Tulsa, OK and met his future wife, Joanne, at Flight Safety International. On January 26, 1979, Wayne and Joanne were married and Wayne became not only a stepfather to Joanne’s three children, whom he provided for and sheltered with love and commitment, but also a caregiver to a Great Dane, exotic birds, and several cats. He sacrificed his time to provide his children with character building experiences in canoeing, camping, hiking, white water rafting the Royal Gorge, a road trip thru Death Valley and numerous other life experiences. Wayne was devoted to this family and all the animals. Wayne was an avid outdoorsman, gun shooting enthusiast, huge NASCAR fan and he had a special affection for musician Bob Dylan and race car driver, Dale Earnhardt, Sr. He loved life and fast cars and took great pleasure in racing his 2002 SS Camaro with his late wife, Joanne. Wayne obtained an Electrical Engineering degree from Tulsa Community College in 1986. He was committed to his career and retired from Dealers Electrical Supply in 2007. During his marriage, Wayne and Joanne grew close to the Lord and were dedicated servants. He lost his late wife of 42 years, Joanne, on June 29, 2021, and despite his sorrow, Abby, their beloved Jack Russell Terrier, provided him with loving companionship.
He is survived by his stepchildren, Brian Scott and wife, Teresa, Debbie Brown and husband, Terry, and Doug Scott and wife Jennifer; grandchildren, Christopher Scott, Brandon Rapp, Taylor Brown, Adam Scott, and Sawyer Scott; beloved family dog, Abby; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne York; parents, Kenneth and Virginia York; and sisters, Janelle Hughes and Marci Trude.
Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
