Lucy Karen (McMenis) Dunn, 78, of Broken Arrow, OK, was born February 20, 1945, in Lawton, OK, to James Truett “J.T.” McMenis and Bennie Lorene (Moss) McMenis-Johnson. She passed away July 19, 2023, in Tulsa, OK.
Karen was born and raised in Lawton and graduated from Lawton High School. She later met and married Cameron student, Mike McNiel and started a family. They moved to Bartlesville, then Tulsa, where they would raise the kids. For many years, Karen worked in Central Service for St. John Medical Center. She later met and married William “Bill” Dunn III, and they had a son . She then obtained a certificate in Surgical Technology and became a Certified Surgical Scrub Technician. She worked as a Surgical Tech for some time before going on to work in the Labor and Delivery unit at St. John. Karen was always involved in her kids’ sports activities and worked with the Union Soccer Club for years for the benefit of the community. Through her work there, Karen enjoyed knowing many of the Tulsa Roughnecks pro soccer club. She was always willing to let our house be the one where all of the other kids wanted to hangout. She was always involved in taking care of not only us, but other people’s kids when they weren’t able to, even by taking them to the dentist or the doctor! Back in the day, Karen enjoyed crocheting, canning, listening to music, going bowling, or bicycling, playing tennis, and she always loved to read. She was very much loved by, enjoyed spending time with, and loved her friends, Lou, Linda, Kay, and Hiroko. In her recent years, Karen especially enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandkids whenever possible. Our mother was so generous and kindhearted, she would do just about anything for anyone at any time. The community loved her for that.
She is survived by her daughter, Lorrie Collier and husband, Todd; sons, William P “Beau” Dunn, IV, and wife, Jamalyn, and Robert McNiel; grandchildren, Adam Collier, Chandler Dunn, Joey Dunn, Cameron Clay, Chrysten McNiel, Pamela Martin, McKenzie McNiel, and Scotty McNiel; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Michael McNiel; parents, J.T. and Lorene McMenis-Johnson; brother, Ben Fox; and ex-husbands, Mike McNiel and William “Bill” Dunn, III.
Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
