Funeral Services for John Earl Smith, Sr., 78, of Turley, were held Friday, July 18, 2014 at the Tidings of Peace Baptist Church in Turley, OK. The Charles Sain officiated and burial was in the Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK. Casket Bearers were Terry Lee Smith, Levi Anthony Smith, Rusty Paul William Smith, Brandon Earl Smith, Skylar Drake Smith, and Shane Curtis Smith. Honorary Casket Bearers were Edith Blevins, Pearl Swarer, Toni Puckett, Jessica Puckett, and Kelly Nowlin. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
John was born June 22, 1936 in Webbers Falls, OK to William John and Rachel (Medlin) Smith. He passed away July 14, 2014 in Turley, OK.
John was a machinist and welder. He also liked carpentry work and small engine repair. John just loved to tinker around making things. Most of all, he loved playing the bass guitar and singing. John also enjoyed going fishing, hunting, and camping. In his younger days, John loved to talk on his CB radio under the name of Jiminy Cricket.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa Ann Smith; children, Tammy Wallace of Tulsa, Terry Smith of Tulsa, Sherry Smith of Tulsa, Robbie Galleger of IN, Robin Smith of Tulsa, Patty Smith of Tulsa; and Skylar Moniz of Tulsa; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his William and Rachel Smith; first wife, Emma Grace Smith; and sons, John Earl Smith, Jr. and Curtis Wayne Smith.
