John T "Papaw" Maggard

Graveside services for John T.  "Papaw" Maggard, 79, of Sperry, OK, were held Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK. Pastor Jerry Harper officiated. Casket bearers were John S. Maggard, Jake Maggard, Steve A. Maggard, Andrew Maggard, David A. James, Matthew Maggard, Garrett Johnson and Connor Maggard. Honorary Casket bearers were Travis Hubbard, Chuck Stout, James Webster, Wes Hines, Bill Maggard and Raymond Maggard.

John was born June 22, 1941 in Nowata, OK, to Joseph David and Vida Lee (Darnell) Maggard. He passed away March 17, 2021 in Tulsa, OK.

John worked for Unit Rigg of Tulsa, John Zink and Tulsa Public Schools. John also worked for Maggard Oil Company. He was a member and attended Osage Oaks Church of God in Sperry since 1984. He was a prayer warrior and lifted his whole family up in prayer every morning. His wife, Bonnie was his “Darlin’” and was the light of his life. John and Bonnie were married for 57 years.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Maggard; daughter, Gena James and husband, David; son, John S. Maggard and wife Sheila, Steve Maggard and wife, Michelle; grandchildren, Andrew Maggard, Jordan James, Matthew Maggard, Reghan James, Shelby Maggard, Connor Maggard and wife, Holly, Madison Maggard, and Jake Maggard; great-grandchild, Alan Maggard; brothers, Bill Maggard and Ray Maggard; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Vida Lee Maggard; son, Brian Travis Maggard; and brothers, Wayne Maggard and J.D. Maggard.

Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
