John Cliff Jones

Funeral services for John Cliff Jones, of Sand Springs, were held Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at New Life Tabernacle in Sand Springs, OK. Reverend A.D. Hill, Reverend Dan Switzer, and Reverend Matthew Martin officiated and burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK. Casket bearers were Doyle Thulin, Steve Jones, Milton Jones, Ben Hurley, Shawn Clark, and Ronnie Jones. Honorary casket bearers were Bill Marrs, Donald Marrs, Buryl Jones, James Briggs, Larry Briggs, and Reverend Gary Howard.


John was born June 18, 1919 in Chelsea, OK to Dexter Wesley and Lottie Agnes (Huckaby) Jones. He passed away April 8, 2012 in Tulsa, OK at the age of 92.


John worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and a licensed minister with the United Pentecostal Church. He also served as a city council member and interim mayor for the city of Sperry. John also had many part time career endeavors. He loved nature, gardening, hunting, and fishing. John loved his church family and was a long standing member of the New Life Tabernacle congregation.


He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Jones; sons, Ronald Jones and wife Pamela of Muldrow, Clifford Jones of Disney; daughter, Janice Switzer and husband Dan of Sand Springs; brothers, William Jones and Frank Jones of Sperry; sisters, Juanita Cook of Murphysboro, IL and Rachael Martens of Indianapolis, IN; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Dexter and Lottie Jones; grandson, Tracey; brothers, Lloyd, Emmett, Wesley, Earl, James, Leo, and Marion; sisters, Ruth, Orpha, Madeline, and Lois.
