Jerry Lee Hensley

Memorial Services for Jerry Lee Hensley, 65, of Poplarville, MS, formerly of Skiatook, were held Friday, September 5, 2014 at the Johnson Funeral Chapel in Sperry, OK. The Pastor Lynda Ward officiated and burial was in the Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.

Jerry Lee Hensley was born December 10, 1948 in Tulsa, OK to Bernard Dice and Mary Jean (Hampton) Hensley. He passed away August 29, 2014 in Poplarville, MS.

Jerry was raised in Skiatook and graduated in 1967. He attended Oklahoma State University and graduated from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. While attending Oklahoma State University, Jerry played football for the Cowboys. He was also an avid golfer and got his first “hole in one” at Timberton Golf Course in Hattiesburg, MS. Jerry played golf with a really great group of men. Jerry was a retired manager with Mattress Direct in Hattiesburg, MS. Jerry attended Oak Hill Baptist Church in Poplarville, MS. It is said that he loved his mom’s peach pie and Ms. Jane’s coconut pie. For those who knew Jerry, “you know” he had a great sense of humor, – dry, funny, and lots of laughs. He was a loving husband and there are so many cherished memories. Maria is grateful to God for putting Jerry in her life. The sacred vow “’til death do us part is hard but Maria praises the Lord, smiles, and thinks, Jerry and her will be reunited again.

He is survived by his wife, Maria Hensley of Poplarville; four children, Jeremy Hensley, Jenny Hensley, Lauren Herrin, Lane Herrin; mother, Jean Hensley; six grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Dice Hensley and brother, Gary Hensley.
