Funeral services for Jay C. Swartz, 72, of Sperry, were held Thursday, October 21, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Sperry, OK. Reverend Andy Anquoe, Reverend Don Queen, and Reverend Calvin Worley officiated and burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK. Casket Bearers were Michael J. Lewis, David Morgan, Christopher Worley, B.J. Williams, Brian Williams, and Michael Swartz. Honorary Casketbearers were the IOOF Lodge # 28 and the Rebekah Lodge #137.
Jay was born January 14, 1938 in Sperry, OK to Jay and Addie (Jones) Swartz. He passed away October 18, 2010 in Tulsa, OK.
Jay has been a loving husband to Winifred R. Swartz for the last 49+ years. Jay worked as a machinist for McDonnell Douglas for 27 ½ years. He has been a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows since 1956 and he was a past Grand Noble of the IOOF Lodge in Tulsa. He was to serve at the State Lodge Convention this week as chaplain. Jay was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge. His hobbies included woodworking and frame making. Jay loved to travel and go to see their children and grandchildren. He was a loving husband, daddy, grandpa, great-grandpa, and great-great grandpa and he will be missed very much.
He is survived by his wife, Winnie Swartz of the home; children, Winnie Clark of Oklahoma City, William Springer and wife Connie of Mineral Wells, TX, Carol Steen of Lexington, TN, Debbie Williams and husband Jim of Disney, OK, and Alan Swartz and wife Susan of Sperry; grandchildren, Colleen Patlan of Owasso, Michael Jay Lewis of Tulsa, Andrea Clifton and husband Mark of Oklahoma City, David Morgan and wife Scarlett of Mineral Wells, TX, Peggy Tarter of GA, Calvin Worley and wife Amy of Memphis, TN, Christopher Worley and wife Wendy of Michie, TN, Crystalla Keith of Cedar Grove, TN, B.J. Williams and wife Heather of Yukon, OK, Brian James Williams and wife Johanna of Clarksville, TN, Stephanie Streets and spouse Thomas of Oklahoma City, Amanda Swartz and fiancé Brian of Sperry, Michael Swartz of Sperry, and Kristen Swartz of Sperry; 28 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, J.B. Swartz and spouse Evelyn of Tulsa; sister, Verna West; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Addie Swartz; brothers, Charlie Swartz, Henry Swartz, Alfred Swartz, and Johnny Fowler Swartz; and an infant sister.
