James Rodney “Rod” “Veto” Taumby, 66, of Tahlequah, OK was born February 2, 1950 in Talihina, OK to James Lee Murphy and Wanda Jean (Arnold) Teagarden. He passed away November 19, 2016 in Tulsa, OK.
James was known to his family as “Rod” and to most friends as “Veto. He was born a comedian and always made people laugh and smile. Veto loved spending time with his family and many friends. He loved kids and never met a stranger. Throughout his life, he worked as a bartender and painter. He was an artist who liked to draw and paint. Veto loved singing, dancing, playing pool and fast cars. He enjoyed storytelling and writing about his life experiences, as well as poetry. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his sisters, Wanda Burk of Collinsville, OK, Franny Carney of Tulsa, OK, Patricia Moreno of Dallas, TX, Norma Simmons of Dallas, TX, Phyllis Davis of Dallas, TX, and Mary Rodriguez of Dallas, TX; brothers, Larry Murphy and wife, Celia, of Sperry, Leonard Murphy of Dallas, TX, Dondi Murphy of Dallas, TX, Patrick Murphy of Dallas, TX, Dennis Teagarden of Atlanta, GA, and Johnny Arnold of TX; a dear friend and caregiver, Linda Chamberlain; nieces, Angela Irwin of McAlester, OK, Nicole Overholt of Collinsville, OK, Tracy Burk of Tulsa and Victoria Peters of Tulsa, OK; nephews, Michael Murphy of Kansas City, MO, Chris Reynolds of Grandview, MO, Fletch Reynolds of Olathe, KS and Justin Hooper of Tulsa, OK; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Wanda Teagarden; father, James Murphy; brothers, Norman Murphy and Myron Murphy.
