James Corby Smock

Memorial services for James Corby Smock, 73, of Sand Springs, OK, were held Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Johnson Funeral Chapel in Sperry, OK. Phil Johnson officiated. Honorary Casket bearers were Rusty Wheeler, Duke Shanahan, Everett Smock, Mark Mabes, Max Shanahan, and Tracy Mabes.

Corby was born December 16, 1949, in Tulsa, OK, to Herman Charles Mitchell, Sr. and Twyla Novella (Chailer) Smock. He passed away April 7, 2023, in Sand Springs, OK.

Corby’s first job was at Warehouse Market as a stockroom associate. He went on to become a General Manager for several different companies, such as the Wells Food Market, Tulsa Fruit Co., in Oklahoma and for over 100 plus Coastal Mart Stores in Florida. Corby was also a truck driver for several years, as well as a mechanic, heavy equipment operator and outage planner for a Trash to Energy plant. He was a member of the Grand Lodge of OK AF&AM (Ancient Free & Accepted Masons) and loved to restore classic cars. Corby was a loyal friend forever. Once you became his friend, it was for life. He is deeply loved and missed by his wife, family, and grandchildren 

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Smock; children, James Smock and wife, Debbie, Monica Shanahan, Rick Malonee and wife, June, and Tony Brooks and wife, Sherrie; grandchildren, Everett Smock, Emilie Shanahan, Max Shanahan and Duke Shanahan; sister, Mary Scott; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jamie Smock; father, James Smock; mother, Twyla Smock; sister, June Bean and husband, Jerry; and brother-in-law, Floyd Scott.

Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
