Memorial Services for Jackie Ray Burgess, 52, of Skiatook, were held Friday February 13, 2009 at the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in Sperry, OK. A private family interment followed. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
Jackie was born March 18, 1956 in Henderson, NV to Claude Oscar and Georgia Frances Burgess. He passed away February 1, 2009 in Tulsa, OK.
Jackie loved his job and spent 18 years as a backhoe operator. His distinct success and extraordinary way of operating his equipment was to do so cross-handed, which drew many crowds around him due to this one of a kind procedure. He was a very avid sports fan, and loved the water, which led to his nickname, "Perch." He also enjoyed playing golf. Jackie and his son went as often as possible, and were even very competitive in a fun way against each other. His daughter, Stacy, was very protected by her dad in all ways, but also seemed to be wrapped around his little finger since day one. He reveled at her beautiful smile and she blessed Papa with his most prized possession of two grandchildren, as did his son with two more.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Cheryl Burgess of Skiatook; daughter, Stacy Robedeaux of Skiatook; son, Jason Burgess and wife Kim of Skiatook; grandchildren, Jocelyn Robedeaux, Aspen Burgess, Jess Robedeaux and Isom Fox Burgess; sister, Brenda Seaton of Sperry; brothers-in-law, John Seaton of Sperry, Bo Morrison of Collinsville, and Mike Morrison of Turley; sister-in-law, Desiree Morrison of Collinsville; 13 nieces and nephews; 9 great-nieces and great-nephews; 3 aunts; 2 uncles; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Oscar and Georgia Burgess; brother, Kenneth Steven Burgess all of Skiatook.
