Funeral services for Henry Alexander Martens, of Indianapolis, IN were held Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Sperry United Pentecostal Church in Sperry, OK. Reverend Dan Switzer officiated and burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK. Casket bearers were Gene Hurley, Don Marrs, James Briggs, Doug Howard, Steve Jones, and Milton Jones.
Henry was born May 3, 1927 in Salina, KS to Henry Ferdinand and Urilla Sears (Knowles) Martens. He passed away February 19, 2012 in Indianapolis, IN at the age of 84.
Henry was an Apostolic minister affiliated with the United Pentecostal Church International. He moved to Los Angeles at a young age. Henry married Rachel Mae Jones on June 20, 1949, and they lived in Los Angeles until 1973, when they moved back to her hometown of Sperry, OK. In 2008, Henry and Rachel moved to Indianapolis, IN where they could be cared for by a daughter and son-in-law. Henry was “Hank” to those who knew him. In Los Angeles, he was a foreman of the machine shop for James B. Lansing (better known as JBL). In Tulsa, Henry was a Class A Tool and Die Maker for McDonald-Douglas (which is now Boeing Aircraft) and retired from Boeing in 1990. Henry loved God and his family. His spiritual legacy lingers through his children and grandchildren who love the Lord and serve God in many areas of ministry. He liked to say that all of his children and grandchildren had received the Holy Ghost. As of January 2010, he could also say that one of his great-grandchildren, Olivia Jury had received the Holy Ghost at the age of four. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 62 ½ years, Rachel Mae (Jones) Martens; three children, Claudia Sue Jury of Blackshear, GA, Ruth Ann Rogers of Indianapolis, IN, and Stephen Henry Martens of Mountain View, AR; seven grandchildren, Jill Vestal, David Jury, Sondra Clark, Justin Jury, Jonathan Jury, Amy Martens, and Kody Martens; six great-grandchildren, Allison Clark, Levi Vestal, Olivia Jury, Reagan Vestal, Ava Jury, and Bronson Jury; sisters, Mary Augusta Edge of Portland, OR, and Edna Mae McKnight of DeSoto, TX; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Urilla Martens; and brothers, Johnny Martens and Herman Martens.
