Gussie Douglas Whittaker, Sr.

Graveside services for Gussie Douglas “Gus” Whittaker, Sr., 60, of Sperry, OK, were held Friday, March 27, 2020 at Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK. Pastor Paul Taylor officiated.

Gus was born June 29, 1959 in Idalou, TX to Bennie Franklin and Oleta Joy (Burks) Whittaker. He passed away March 24, 2020 in Sperry, OK.

Gus was a member of Sequoyah Hills Baptist Church for over 20 years. Before that, Gus was a Deacon at Immanuel Baptist Church for 15 years where he enjoyed driving the church bus for the neighborhood kids. Gus was employed at EPUMPS for 10 years after working for Laufen International for 27 years. Gus enjoyed fellowshipping with his family and eating Mexican food, riding on his motorcycle, watching sports and tinkering around. Gus’ favorite hobby was traveling, and he would take a bike ride anywhere. He loved his family and the lord. His favorite bible verse was Psalm 100.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Whittaker of Sperry; daughter, Tanya Whittaker of Tulsa; son, Gussie Whittaker, Jr. of Sperry; daughter, Lindsay Coffey and husband, Matthew of Sperry; grandchildren, Dominic, Anna Joy, Gideon, Titan, Gussie III, Denver and Silas; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Oleta Whittaker; brother, Danny Whittaker; and sister, Lanell Calloway.

Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
