Funeral services for George Eugene “Gene” “Brick” Hanlin, 96, of Claremore, OK, were held Friday, October 9, 2020 at Sperry Christian Church in Sperry, OK. Elder Charles Rowden and Reverend Johnnie Fought officiated, and burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK. Casket bearers were Jon Aaron Carrico, Luke Osborne, Anthony Benningfield, Jason Carrico, Chance Massa, Chandler Massa and Kevin Hanlin. Honorary Casket bearers were Darel Benningfield, Michael Rider, Todd Hanlin, Jack Hanlin, Terry Wadsworth, Dustin Andrews, Colby Osborne, and Alex Reed.
George, also lovingly known by family and friends as “Gene” or “Brick” was born October 14, 1923 in Sperry, OK to Clyde Charles Hanlin and Magel Ellen (Luke) Munsey. He passed away October 4, 2020 in Claremore, OK.
Gene was a very patriotic person and served his country as a soldier in the Army during World War II and Korea and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was also a welder on a NASA spacecraft in 1966. He was a devoted son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather and friend to many. Gene was also a farmer, gardener, bowler, and fisherman. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends and attending family gatherings.
He is survived by his daughters, Susan Osborne-Rider and husband, Michael and Vickie Benningfield and husband Darel; and grandchildren, Jason Carrico, Amanda Carrico-Dodson and husband, Koa, Brandy Veron, Jon Aaron Carrico and wife, Angie Baker, Anthony Benningfield, and Luke Osborne and wife, Jacquelynn; great-grandchildren, Dustin Andrews, Kirstin Carrico, Chance Massa, Cheyenne Massa, Chandler Massa, Gabriella Bartelme, Megan Hopkins, Colby Osborne, Logan Hopkins, Jaden Ham, and America-Renée Freeman; great-great-grandchildren, Jaxon Carrico and Bentley Eastburn; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Hanlin; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Hanlin; siblings, C.C. Hanlin, Niles Hanlin, Jack Hanlin, Charles Hanlin, Herb Hanlin and Joan Wadsworth; father, Clyde Hanlin; and mother, Magel Munsey.
Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
