Esther was the only girl in a family of 10 children. When asked if her brothers ever picked on her she always said, “Oh no, they were always good to me.” She was a member of an undefeated high school girls’ basketball team in 1937. At the age of 16, Esther married Jim Burt, Sr., he was 20. When he saw her, he said “That’s the girl I’m going to marry.” And he did, they were married for 70 happy years. They lived in Coweta, moved to Tulsa and then on to Sperry in 1943. There, they raised 3 children who attended Sperry Public Schools.
Esther was a homemaker and Jim’s right-hand woman working right along beside him every day at the sawmill and oil field. Both Esther and Jim accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior and were long-time dedicated members of the Freewill Baptist Church of Skiatook. She loved the outdoors and her family. She always led the family to her house for meals and holidays. Esther was always a hard worker, willing and ready to pitch in and help her family with any project. She was steadfast with her positive and encouraging attitude. No matter how difficult the situation was, she always made the best of it, by putting on a good attitude and encouraging others
