Funeral services for Dorothy Erma Young, of Sperry, were held Friday, April 13, 2012 at Current Church in Collinsville, OK. Reverend Jim Carney officiated and burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK.
Dorothy was born April 5, 1938 in Falling Rock, WV to Amby Junior Young and Vanda Charlotte (Robison) Johnston. After a valiant battle with cancer, she went to be with her Lord on April 10, 2012 in Sperry, OK at the age of 74.
At the age of eight, Dorothy, along with her mother and siblings, moved by train to Michigan to meet up with her dad; as he went before them to find a job. She had very happy childhood memories of growing up feeling close to her sister and two brothers. She really did walk a mile to her bus stop as a child. Dorothy attended school in Beaverton. Dorothy volunteered at the nursing home to assist with activities. She was a long time member of Current Church in Collinsville. Dorothy was an active member of her church and attended prayer meetings. She was an artist and loved to paint, make jewelry and all kinds of other things. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Her family was very important to her.
She is survived by her children, Raymond Umphrey and wife Vicki of Tulsa, OK Robert Umphrey and wife Lois of Lone Grove, OK, Vanda Berry and husband Rob of Cushing, OK, Richard Umphrey of Oklahoma City, OK, Lloyd Umphrey, Jr. of Beaverton, MI, Mark Umphrey and wife Carla of Sand Springs, OK, and Kelly Umphrey and wife Connie of Sperry, OK; mother, Vanda Johnston of Gladwin, MI; 31 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bill Young and wife Mary of Beaverton, MI, and Jack Young and wife Janeane of Beaverton, MI; sister, Ruth Reid and husband Dick of Beaverton, MI; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lloyd R Umphrey; second husband, Arthur N. Young; and father, Amby Junior Young.
Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
