Dawna Marie Mathews

Memorial services for Dawna Marie Mathews, 72, of Sperry, OK, were held Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Johnson Funeral Chapel in Sperry, OK. Father Joshua Litwack officiated, and burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Tulsa, OK.

Dawna was born October 5, 1951, in Tulsa, OK, to Leslie Arthur Mathews and Lynne Marie (Nevel) Mathews. She left this earth on June 29, 2024, in Tulsa, OK.

Growing up, Dawna was artistic in many ways. She loved to paint, draw and most importantly, she loved to sing. She enjoyed playing music with her father and siblings, a tradition that continued on into adulthood. Dawna was a graduate of McClain High school, class of 1969. She later married James Robert Lyon in 1970. Dawna attained her degree during motherhood at Oklahoma Junior College and went on to become an electronics technician at Citgo Petroleum. Dawna had a love for gardening and making all things grow. She also spent time crocheting and made many blankets to welcome new grandchildren to the world. She was also an avid reader. She loved animals and often had a cat snuggled up beside her. Dawna was most proud of her children and grandchildren. She looked at each of them with loving admiration and found joy being with them. In her later years, Dawna and her sister, Vickie lived together, and the two traveled, hosted family get togethers, went to Church together, attended sporting events, concerts, went shopping, rode on jet skis at the lake, and even went tubing! Life was a beautiful adventure! Dawna’s final days were spent wrapped in the loving embrace of all her dear family being by her bedside.

She is survived by her children, Christopher Lantz Lyon and wife, Shire of CT, Misty Dawn Pingleton and husband, Brian of Tulsa, Brandon Mathew Lyon and wife, Heather of Collinsville, and Joshua Adam King and wife, Courtney of Collinsville; 13 grandchildren; sister, Vickie Fresh of Sperry; brother, Leslie Mathews, Jr. of Claremore; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie Arthur and Lynne Marie (Nevel) Mathews; and brother, Timothy Boyd Mathews.

Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
