Darrell Leon Whitten

Funeral Services for Darrell Leon Whitten, 71, of Claremore, were held Friday December 5, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Tulsa, OK. The Reverend Ed Bateman and Ken Swearingen officiated and burial was in the Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK.

Darrell was born September 16, 1937 in Tulsa, OK to William Paul and Emma Elizabeth (Caffey) Whitten. He passed away December 2, 2008 in Claremore, OK.

Just a few of Darrell's qualities would be his indisputable sense of integrity, loyalty to family, friends and work, his wholesomeness, and unending generosity. He liked to be with people who laugh but also had a serious side which served him well in his ability to make valuable and equitable decisions. Darrell's education began at Cherokee School in Turley, before moving to Montana. He attended Central High School and Southeastern State Pueblo, Colorado. His pipeline career as a coating and utility inspector, foreman, quality control and consultant took him too many states and several mid-eastern countries. The companies he has travelled with are numerous, to name a few, Neill-Price International, Constructors International in London, England, Great Lakes Pipeline, Lakehead Pipeline and Dakota Gasification.

An instilled faith in Darrell's childhood remained strong throughout his life and he went to be with his Heavenly Father.

He is survived by his sister, Jeanie Wright Brown of Claremore; four nieces and five nephews, Donna Novel of Grove, Deborah Mish of Muskogee, Bonita Botard of Ozark, MO, Cynthia Shipman of Monument, CO, Michael Brown of Lincoln, CA, Charlie Whitten of Oakhurst, TX, Richard Whitten of Disney, OK, Bruce Wright of Fairbanks, AK and Blake Wright of Kelona, British Columbia.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lori Cowan Whitten; parents William and Emma Whitten; siblings, Paul Whitten Jr., Mary Louise Brown and Charles Kenneth Whitten.
