Funeral services for Darla Jean (Ozment) Byers, 81, of Tulsa OK, were held Friday, June 7, 2024, at Johnson Funeral Chapel in Sperry, OK. Matt Crain officiated, and burial was in Ridgelawn Cemetery in Collinsville, OK. Casket bearers were Doug Muse, Patrick Loveless, Matt Loveless, Danny Byers, and Jesse Byers. Honorary casket bearers were Shawn Holland, Terry King, Jeff Calvert, TJ Rogers, Paul Muse, Keith Muse, Adam Ozment, and David “Davey” Byers.
Darla was born September 16, 1942, in Oklahoma City, OK to Mary Frances (Heron) and John Douglas Ozment. She passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 1, 2024, with family by her side.
Graduating from Tulsa Central High School in 1960, she went on to continue her education at Tulsa University. She had many careers throughout her life, including a key-punch operator for American Airlines, a Tax Preparer for H&R Block, and an office worker at Tulsa Heaters, Inc. She also spent many years as a homemaker, as well as a volunteer firefighter for the Limestone Fire Protection District. Darla was a lover of life, had a unique sense of humor, and took every opportunity to find the fun. She was a member of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls, Turley Roundup Club, and the Swinging Singles and Pairs & Squares square dance clubs.
She is survived by her loving children, Shirley Byers of Oklahoma City, Sherry King and husband, Terry of Muldrow, Bevan Rogers of Fort Smith, AR, and Kenalea Holland and husband, Shawn of Collinsville, OK; 4 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sister, Marilyn Loveless and husband, Dan of Collinsville, OK; brother, John Ozment and wife, Vicky of Fayetteville, AR; numerous nieces and nephews; and many more family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Kenneth Lee Byers; parents, Doug and Mary Ozment; oldest brother, Jim Ozment, and oldest sister, Sonya (Ozment) Muse.
Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
