Graveside services for Daniel McAllister “Pops” Sharpton, of Claremore, were held Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK. Mr. Phillip Johnson officiated. Honorary casket bearers were Wally Nava, Alex Nava, Steve Dafenbaugh, Jason Tennyson and Travis Martin.
Daniel, known by many as “Pops”, was born June 28, 1954 in Nueva Rosita, Coahuila, Mexico to James W. and Mary L. (McAllister) Sharpton. He passed away April 14, 2012 in Claremore, OK at the age of 57.
Daniel served in the US Navy for 9 years on the USS Rhode Island and USS Georgia submarines. He was also a Training Instructor at the Trident Submarine Training Facility in Kings Bay, GA. Daniel also retired from the US Postal Service after 12 years. He enjoyed reading, hunting and especially playing golf. Daniel loved the game and would play as much as he could with his dad, son, and Naval buddies. He was a very devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Sharpton; children, Michael Sharpton, Jeremy Sharpton and Cheyanne Sharpton; grandchildren, Alexis Sharpton, Aiden Sharpton and Kimberly Cooper; sisters, Shirley Sharpton and Margaret Robles; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Sharpton, and sister, Mary Flood.
