Cleo Marie Gaffney

Cleo Marie (Givens) Gaffney entered the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday the 22nd of December, 2009. The soul of our beautiful, precious Mother was joyously reunited with her husband, two sons, and all of her loved ones who went before her.

Cleo was born September 21, 1914 in Sperry, Oklahoma to Creed Oak and Nancy Ann (Garrett) Givens.

When Cleo was little, her family moved to Wayside, Ks, where she started school. They then moved back to Sperry where she went to school from 2nd grade to 12th grade and graduated with the class of 1934. She met William Theodore "Ted" Gaffney in Sperry at a medicine show and married in 1934. To this union, 10 children were born: Joe Lee, Jerry Dean, Donald Gene, Sharon Ann, Patricia Sue, Brenda Mae, Bettye Lue, Marilyn Marie, Ricky Ray and Rita Jane.

After her husband passed away in 1964 she took a job with Sperry Public School working in the cafeteria. While serving lunches, she would always make sure the children had plenty to eat by giving extra food and would sometimes pay for lunches for the underprivileged. She also purchased clothing, coats and shoes for the needy children. She completed 24 years of service retiring in 1988 at the age of 73. She was also very instrumental in helping get special education in Sperry Schools, as she has a special needs daughter. She was also a member of the Sperry Merchants for several years, always helping to clean up our town and by using her talent with flowers by adding pots with flowers along the sidewalks, the gazebo and Armory. She was baptized at the age 12 and joined the First Christian Church of Sperry now the Sperry Christian Church. She was one of the biggest contributors and inspiration in forming the Sperry Christian Church along with her beautiful Soprano voice, singing in the choir, solos, duets and trios. She was the VBS director for many years. She assisted in the fundraisers and fish fries that built our new Christian Church building. She loved her Lord and Savior and was a Godly Woman; you could always tell she was Christ like by the way she lived her life. She instilled this in her children and family and was never afraid to be a witness for her Lord and Savior in her daily life.

Cleo is survived by her sons Jerry Gaffney and wife Vicky of Skiatook and Ricky Gaffney and wife Kaye of Owasso; daughters Sharon Ivins and husband Johnny of Sperry, Patti Lee and husband David of Pryor, Brenda Roller of Sapulpa, Bettye Crooks of Tulsa, Marilyn Felts and husband Dennis of Pryor, and Rita Jane Gaffney of Sperry, daughter-in-law Betty Ann Gaffney of Skiatook; 12 grandsons, 7 granddaughters, 27 great grandchildren, 9 step grandchildren and 5 step great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
