Funeral Services for Chester R. Palmer, 89, of Tulsa, are Thursday December 4, 2008 at the Belview Baptist Church in Tulsa, OK. The Reverend Tom Branch officiated and burial is in the Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK.
Chester was born May 10, 1919 in Iola, KS to David and Martha (Ketchum) Palmer. He passed away December 1, 2008 in Tulsa, OK.
Chester graduated from Chanute, Kansas High School and received his degree as a health inspector from Vanderbilt College in Nashville, TN. Chester moved to the Tulsa area in the early fifties. He lived in Turley much of his life and was an avid gardener growing both flowers and vegetables. He had many unusual plants and flowers which always seem to thrive under his care. He could tell you the names of each one and what kind of care they needed. Chester was also well known in the area for his vegetable gardens. He grew much more than they could can and eat so he shared with everyone who came by. He always had the best tomatoes of anyone around. Chester officially retired from his job as a building engineer for the Tulsa World, then worked several more years at different jobs because he just didn't like being idle. In his later years he moved back to Tulsa and was a member of Belview Baptist Church.
He is survived by his son, Don Palmer and wife Carol of Owasso; daughters, Judy Cornelius and husband Ernie of Glenpool, Carol Gilleland and husband Rodger of Tulsa and Melody Boling and husband David of Tulsa; grandchildren, Jim Palmer and wife Wendy, Jeff Palmer and wife Kathy, Debbie Bowers, Becky and Brandy Gilleland, Michael Boling and wife Ashley, Lisa Gusler and husband Cory, and Mark Boling; great-grandchildren, Katie, Matthew, Jessica, Andrew and Zachary Palmer, Ty, Jessica, Corey, Jamie Gilleland, and Kiersten and Landon Gusler; sister-in-law, Edith Rowand and several nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
