Funeral services for Charles Thomas Hallford, 83, of Sperry, OK, were held Monday, February 6, 2023, at Johnson Funeral Home in Sperry, OK. High Priest Steve VanMeter and Priest Dean Holt officiated, and burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK. Casket bearers were Bob Glasgow, Robert Goddard, John Ishmael, Waylon Woods, Matthew Gourd, and James Hallford.
Charles, or "Charlie" as he was known to family and friends, was born on February 20, 1939, in Prairie Grove, AR to Floyd and Helen Hallford. To be specific, Helen gave birth to him on the way to the local town clinic or Mack's Clinic, in a field while passing through.
Sadly, Charlie passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at St. John Hospital, just 18 days shy of his 84th birthday.
As the only child, he was loved beyond measure. The family moved to Sapulpa, OK, where he graduated from high school. Beginning October 3, 1961, he served in the US Army with the 656th battalion as a print press engineer and sniper. He served overseas in Germany and then eventually in California before being honorably discharged on September 26, 1963. He would then meet Evelyn Jean Taylor or "Jeannie" as she was known. Charlie stood her up on their first date but made up for it when he asked for her hand in marriage. They were married on June 17, 1972, in Jeannie's parents’ home and never stopped loving each other. They have one child, a son, James Von Hallford. He worked for 40 years at the Tulsa World, then retired to pursue his hobbies and spend time with his family. Charlie was a kind and mild-mannered individual. His passions were going fishing, hunting, and collecting guns. He was a member of Red Castle Gun Club where he loved teaching people how to shoot. When he wasn’t at home, Charlie could be found in Cookson, OK enjoying Tenkiller lake. Life there was simple. Eat, fish, and repeat. Of course, Charlie also enjoyed time with old friends and family. A man of faith, he believed in hard work and helping others. Charlie gardened for years, providing vegetables to neighbors and friends He was a member of the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Sperry, OK.
He is survived by his son, James Hallford of Sperry; and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannie Hallford.
Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
