Chaplain Dr. Charles Eugene Sharp, age 77, of Tulsa, OK died February 28, 2013, from complications of Alzheimer’s. He was born January 7, 1937 in Roswell, New Mexico to Oran and Darlene Sharp. He was married to Peggie Anne Brewer Sharp.
Charles graduated from Texarkana High School. He attended Texarkana College, Ouachita Baptist University and Henderson University. He received a PhD from East Texas State University. Charles taught in public schools as well as Decatur Baptist College, East Texas Baptist College and Mobile College. He was pastor of Bellwood Baptist Church in North Syracuse, NY. He served the Baptist Conventions of the Northern Plains Baptist Convention and the Colorado Baptist Convention. He also served in the Western Kansas Baptist Association then the Bartholomew Baptist Association in AR. He taught in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Russia and Romania. He was an Adjunct Professor at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Charles joined Civil Air Patrol in 1993, where he ended his career as the National Chief of Chaplains and reached the rank of Colonel.
Charles is survived by his wife, Peggie; children: Cindy (Tim) Timmerman, Lori (Steve) Brown, Jason (Shannon) Sharp; grandchildren: Lindsey (Philip) Herron, Kayla, Breanna and Joshua Sharp and Jeremy and Emily Kelley; one great-grandchild: Zoe Herron; 3 brothers: Stanley (Jann), Harold and Darrell Sharp. A graveside service will be held at Roselawn Cemetery, Pine Bluff, AR at 10:30 am on March 4, 2013. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to any Alzheimer’s Association.
