Carolyn Jean Rumsey

Memorial services for Carolyn Jean (Lord) Rumsey, 76, of Sperry, OK, were held Friday, February 11, 2022, at Community of Christ Church in Sperry, OK. Elder Charles Rowden officiated.

Carolyn was born June 12, 1945, in Tulsa, OK, to Amos Williford and G. Lorene (Hall) Lord. She passed away February 8, 2022, in Tulsa, OK.

Carolyn was an amazing wife and was married to Russell for 49 years. She was the most phenomenal mother to her daughters, Phaedra and Pharah. To her grandchildren, Chenoah, Miriam, and Calan, she was by far the best grandmother in the world! Carolyn was an educator at heart and never passed up the opportunity to share knowledge with others. She knew education was the key to success. She was an Elementary Teacher for Tulsa Public Schools for 5 years (1966 – 1971) and at Sperry Elementary for 20 years (1980 – 2000) and taught several generations of families in Sperry. During that time, Carolyn also received her pilot’s license Carolyn was a member of the Sperry Community of Christ Church for 55 years. She also served as a docent at Gilcrease Museum for 18 years 2000 - 2018. Carolyn was a member of the Philanthropic Education Organization (P.E.O) and was a member of the Sperry Friends of the Library. She was always a wonderful supporter of her community and educational opportunities. Carolyn loved animals and definitely had a soft spot for them. Over her long life, she had several cats and dogs, but the cats were always her favorite!

She is survived by her daughters, Phaedra Shipley and husband, Greg, and Pharah Miller; grandchildren, Chenoah Shipley, Calan Shipley and Miriam Miller; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell R. Rumsey; and parents, Amos and Lorene Lord.

Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
