Funeral services for Billie Doyle Moss, of Sperry, were held Friday, May 4, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Sperry, OK. Reverend Victor Bernhardt and Chaplin Galen Tiffany officiated and burial was in Tahlequah City Cemetery in Tahlequah, OK. Casket bearers were Connor D. Moss, Joe Abel, Blain D. Fowlkes, Justin Christian, Scott Smith, and Bill Gordon. Honorary casket bearers were Chris Trammel, Dakota Smith and Troy Abel.
Billie was born November 17, 1943 in Tahlequah, OK to Bill Doyle and Merilee (Arnett) Moss. He passed away April 29, 2012 in Sperry, OK at the age of 68.
Billie attended school at Cherokee Elementary, Monroe Junior High, and McLain High School. He served in the United States Navy on the USS Salisbury Sound where he became a Golden Glove Boxing Champion. Billie met and married Patsy Ecker in 1965. He rode bulls as a member of the Turley Round-Up Club. Billie’s occupation as a truck driver for Coors, Chief and Consolidated Freightways where he gained the skills and knowledge needed to compete at the National Truck Driving Championships every year. He won his fourth 1st place trophy before being graciously asked if he would become a judge the next year allowing someone else the opportunity to win. Billie became a Master Mason and a member of the Tulsa Scottish Rite and the Tulsa York Rite. He was also a member of the Akdar Shrine where he was very active in transporting the children to and from the Shriner’s Hospitals.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy Moss of the home; daughters, Christina Moss and husband Brent Fowlkes of Skiatook, and Angie Moss of Sperry; daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Moss of Saltillo, TX; grandchildren, Erica, Geana, JR, Hanna, Blain, Ashten, Connor, Satara, Johnny, Kodye, Zoe, Sailor, and Michael; 12 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Brian Moss; parents, Bill and Merilee Moss; and sister, Cheryl Moss.
