Funeral services for Beatrice Jenive “Bea” (Hollandsworth) Lyles, 86, of Sperry, were held Saturday, September 25, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Sperry, OK. Elder Roger Tracy officiated and burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK. Casket Bearers were Scott Hilton, Jimmy Seago, Gene Wheeler, Kyle Silkey, JR Maybee, and Jim Burt. Honorary Casket Bearers were Bill Butler, Virgil Cory, and Charlie Bennett. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
Bea was born January 14, 1924 in Sperry, OK to John W. and Girtha (Crawford) Hollandsworth. She passed away September 20, 2010 in Collinsville, OK.
Bea retired from the Tulsa Post Office in 1982. She transferred to Tulsa from Sperry. She belonged to a square dance club in the mid 1970’s. Bea always loved to ballroom dance. She enjoyed buying towels and clown figurines. She told stories about riding her Harley Davidson on the frozen Sperry Lake. Her father had her changing tires and fixing flats at his gas station when she was 13. Bea also went with him to get ice for the ice house. When she was old enough to drive, she would go alone to pick it up. Bea enjoyed taking her family on vacation, she even went to Germany. She has traveled to all 50 states and even lived in Canada. She loves men’s pro basketball and went to see the Lakers play in Oklahoma City. Bea enjoyed her computer and her “Aunt1Bea” e-mail address. She went into a granny chat room every Wednesday. She played games on pogo.com and her favorites were canasta, gin, and bingo.
She wanted to go to the casinos, but she wouldn’t spend more than $20. Bea tutored for 5 years at Sperry Elementary and she was homeroom mother from 1951 to 1973. She was a member of the Band Boosters, Senior High Key Club, and the PTA. She was a charter member of the Sperry Kiwanis Club and the Sperry Merchants Association. She served as a secretary, treasurer, and vice-president. Bea was a lifetime member of the Baptist Church. She had a standing appointment with Joyce every Friday morning at Salon One for 27 years. Bea played cards every Monday with 5 of her friends and they played a game called Hand & Foot which was like canasta. She belonged to a Bunco Club for 20 years.
She is survived by her daughters, Paula Bea Butler and husband Bill of Collinsville, Barbara Bennett and husband Charlie of Del City, OK, and Sandy Bratton and husband Virgil Cory of Sperry; grandchildren, Amy (Butler) Barnes of Collinsville, Ashley Butler of Sperry, Tom Butler of Eufaula, Matt Butler of Okmulgee, Jeff Roberts of Del City, OK, Ronald Teel of Jay, and Leslea Denney of Ardmore; great-grandchildren, Chase, Summer, Olivia, Brooke, Creed, Hunter, Ava, Halle, Hayden, Brock, Reese, Lexie, Matt, Ronald II, Shawna, Jessica, Nicole, Alyssa, and Kyle; great-great grandchildren, Aiden, Zoey, Colette, Krista, Arianna, and Brody; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, John C. Lyles, parents, John and Girtha Hollandsworth; brothers, Leonard Hollandsworth and Norvel Hollandsworth; and sisters, Myrtle Guinn and Marie Rogers.
