Anthony James Whitaker

Funeral Services for Anthony James Whitaker, 24, of Tulsa, were held Friday, June 19, 2009 at the Iron Post Free Holiness Church in Locust Grove, Oklahoma. The Reverend Travis Martin and Reverend Kevin Webster officiated and burial was in the Ballou Cemetery in Locust Grove, Oklahoma. Casket Bearers were Justin Taylor, Jeremy Burns, Lonnie Thompson, Kaleb Martin, Gary Sandridge, and Nelson Garrett. Honorary Casket bearers were Levi Willis, Robert Allen, J. D. Richards, John Coday, and Brian Gantt. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.

Anthony was born October 5, 1984 in Claremore, Oklahoma, to Anthony Gordan Whitaker and Jane Elizabeth (Martin) Taylor. He passed away June 13, 2009 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Anthony was a heavy equipment operator, employed with American Asphalt in Tulsa. He was a kind, loving, and devoted father. All of his friends and family enjoyed his giving spirit, and his big heart. He always had gentle compassion for all, no matter what their circumstances. He considered all his friends as brothers. Anthony loved football, motorcycles, and spending time with his children. He was especially close to his Mother, Janie, and Dad, Lawrence, and his Pops and Grams.

He is survived by his children, James E. Whitaker, age 2, and Gabriel A. Whitaker, age 1, of Tulsa; his children's mother, Brooke Baker; mother and step-father, Janie Taylor and husband Lawrence, of Tulsa; father, Anthony "Tony" Whitaker; grandparents, James and Lorena Martin of Tulsa, Wilma Whitaker of Tulsa; and Henry and Mary Taylor of Pryor; sisters, Crystal Gantt and husband Brian of Dallas TX; and Niki Whitaker and fiance, Roy Gonzalez of Tulsa; niece, Hazel Gonzalez of Tulsa; uncle, Michael Martin of Tulsa; and a host of many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his uncle, James Martin, Jr.
