Memorial services for Anna Lee (Poore) Bennett, of Skiatook, were held Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Sperry, OK. High Priest Steve VanMeter and Elder C.H. Whiteman officiated with Pat Whiteman providing organ music. A private family interment was in Osage Gardens Cemetery in Skiatook, OK.
Anna was born September 11, 1935 in Skiatook, OK to John H. and Frances (Lang) Poore. She passed away December 15, 2012 in Tulsa, OK at the age of 77. She was the last of nine children.
Anna attended Javine School then Skiatook Schools where she was active in school activities. She sang and acted in school plays and musicals. Anna won awards as a soloist at state competitions and used her musical talent throughout her years in school. At one time she sang with Johnny Lee Wills and won recognition for her talent. While in high school she was a member of Rainbows, and served as an officer in that organization.
On May 29, 1952 she married William Bennett and for the most part lived in Skiatook, except for a few years when they lived in Independence, MO. She graduated from Skiatook High School in 1953. Anna was a baptized member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she used her musical talent as a soloist and working with the choir and junior choir. She was a Sunday school teacher, and active with the women’s department and children’s summer activities. Anna sang in the choir and served as music director for many years. In 1999, she affiliated with the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Anna and Bill celebrated 60 years of marriage this year. Anna worked as a baby sitter before working for Bethlehem Supply, the telephone company and finally several years with Skiatook Public Schools, from which she retired as a teacher’s aide in the Special Education department. Her endless patience and love proved a tremendous help with these youth. As a parent, Anna Lee was active with the school activities of her children, supporting the Skiatook school band as a sponsor for trips and fund raising activities.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Bennett of Skiatook; daughter, Kimberly Bennett-Failla and husband Richard of Kansas City, KS; son, Joel Lane Bennett and wife Teresa of Claremore; granddaughters, Brandi Bennett-Jeans of Claremore, and Molly Lane Failla of Kansas City, KS; great-grandsons, Kyle Lane Jeans and Tyler Logan Jeans of Claremore; sister-in-law Betty Bennett-Bauer and husband Lee of Lucas, TX; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and five sisters.
