Fern Gale

Funeral services for Lizzie Alice Fern (Dale) Gale, 73, of Collinsville, were held Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Maranatha Baptist Temple in Collinsville, OK. Reverend Don Moseby and Morgan Hoover officiated and burial was in Hillside Mission Cemetery in Skiatook, OK. Casket bearers were Nathan Scarborough, Zachary Scarborough, Preston Scarborough, Joseph Scarborough, Matt Scarborough and Buddy Hoover.

Fern was born December 22, 1942 in Mannford, OK to Ora Boone and Eula Francis (Brown) Dale. She passed away May 10, 2016 in Tulsa, OK.

Fern graduated from Brown Business College in Tulsa, OK, she studied shorthand and typing and discovered that she did not want to sit behind a desk for a living. Fern went to work at Unit Rig Company where she was the first female welder to be hired there. Fern could strike the "prettiest weld" you have ever seen; if you didn't believe her all you had to do was ask her.  She also got her CDL and worked as a school bus driver and drove a truck for a contractor for the United Postal Service. She worked almost her entire adult life, until her health wouldn’t allow, to make sure her family was taken care of.

Fern was a great mother and awesome grandma and even greater great grandma. She loved her kids and grandkids more than anything in this world. She also loved to bake for anybody that would stop in and visit her.  You couldn’t leave her house on an empty stomach, she wouldn’t allow it.

Fern taught each of her kids and grandkids about Jesus. She always said “you have to give a child a good Christian foundation”, and she did.

Aunt Fern, Alice, Wife, Mom, Grandma, and G-ma and Friend; she was called many things. She is greatly loved and will be missed by many.

She is survived by her daughters, Valerie Brinson and husband Shearl of Skiatook, Denise Crookshanks and husband Bill of Aura, MO, and Vicki Lund and husband Joe of Skiatook; son, Steven D. Scarborough and Shannon O’Leary of Skiatook; grandson, Morgan Hoover and wife Evan of New Orleans, LA, Timothy Hoover of Skiatook, Joseph Scarborough and wife Jolynn of Shawnee, Matthew Scarborough of McAlester, Preston Scarborough of Skiatook, Nathan Scarborough and wife Amy of Ochelata and Zachary Scarborough of Tulsa; granddaughters, Kate Vanderlinden and husband Mike of Avant and Alexandria Brinson and fiancé Sean Koch of Miami; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Bonnie Loretta Landis of Skiatook and Elnora Merchant and husband Charles of Sapulpa; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ora and Eula Dale; husbands, Floyd Jasper Gale and Joseph Daniel Scarborough; son, Bryan Keith Scarborough; brothers, Frank Dale, Charles Dale, Willis Dale and Clayton Ellis; and sister, Lillian Ermalee Waller.
